Investment is key to the future success of Great Britain’s railways

Unipart Rail welcomes the Budget announcement by the Chancellor of investment in public services and infrastructure to drive growth and jobs, with continued support for significant rail projects:

  • East West Rail
  • HS2 Old Oak Common to Euston tunnelling
  • Trans-Pennine upgrade
  • Electrification works

Confirmation that Great British Railways will go ahead, bringing track and train together to create a simpler, better railway for everyone is welcome. We encourage the Government to act at pace to introduce GBR and use this as an opportunity to reinvigorate our railways. We believe there is real power in bringing track, train and supply chain together to improve industry performance.

Whilst these announcements are welcome news for the rail sector, there are further projects where decisions are yet to be made, including the route improvement works north of Birmingham to extend the benefits of HS2 to the North West of England, where consultation is under way.

At Unipart we are already engaging with the sector to deliver performance improving technologies that can be used to drive efficiencies and improve rail infrastructure as well as reducing operating costs, such as:

  • Gripple Swiftline Rail Droppers – faster and safer installation of overhead line
  • FuelActive – a fuel pick-up solution to the issue of contaminated diesel delivering up to 5% fuel economy improvements and extended engine life
  • Innovative solutions for rail construction, maintenance and renewal projects
  • Enhanced signalling products
  • Novel approaches to Level Crossing build
  • Lower energy Points Heating system
  • Battery powered tools for a safer workforce

As well as a range of other technologies and supply chain solutions that increase productivity, increase safety and remove risk from the sector.

We stand ready to support the changes needed to deliver a great British railway and to partner with companies across the rail sector in the UK and around the world.
