The Unipart Group Australia team have been on a health and safety journey over the last 12 months.
We always want our people to go home in the same, or better, condition than when they arrived. To this end the UGA team have come together to promote safety in the workplace not just through talking the talk but also through walking the walk.
We have introduced safety walks, critical risk audits, risk assessments, emergency management plans, an all-hands WHS monthly meeting and opening each comms cell with safety and a share.
We measure ourselves by our TRIFR (Total Recordable Injury Frequency Ratio). This measures how many incidents occur per 1,000,000 hours worked (Normalized for current headcount). Not many businesses use this measure as it is very difficult to achieve a score of Zero. Many businesses’ use LTI or MTI as a measure which is easier to achieve. We deliberately set ourselves a difficult target to strive for.
The measure takes into account First Aid Cases, Lost Time Injuries and Medically Treated Injuries. I am pleased to say that since we have been on the journey and have safety at the forefront of everyone’s mind and actions, we have had ZERO incidents for the last 12 months. This has been a great example of the whole team pulling together in the pursuit of a common goal. In traditional Aussie fashion, we will be celebrating with a BBQ lunch
